Tell us about an act of kindness that transformed your life? (you could have seen, or done, or had done to you)
My mother, Marisa Ruffner-Fikiet (aka "The Taz") provided random acts of kindnesss as a part of her daily life. She passed this gift to her children. There were times thoughout my life when I witnessed her generosity and random acts of kindness first hand and she smiled with every gesture. On December 14, 2001 she lost her battle with lung, brain, and bone cancer. She agreed to participate in a medical study utilizing the Gamma Knife Procedure in the treatment of her brain cancer so that others would benefit from the findings. She agreed to do it three times at Yale University School of Medicine. She was courageous and determined to provide others with the means of living a moment longer. She always thanked her caregivers even during her treatments with an appreciation luncheon. After her passing, my younger sister, Cindy (aka Baby Taz) came up with the idea to continue the luncheon in memory of our mother by thanking her caregivers with an annual luncheon on her birthday 9/15. We have enjoyed seeing her caregivers annually with many emotions, laughter and many smiles. This year all of the physicians/nurses who attend the annual luncheons decided to turn the tables a bit and do something they felt my mother would do. They surprise my sister Cindy with a baby shower with lots of gifts that they felt our mother who have showered her granddaughter with if she were physically here to kiss and hug Isabella (aka Tiny Taz). Needless to say there was not a dry eye in the place but there were plenty of smiles and laughter which my mother would have loved. The Yale Health Plan even did a cover story for their newsletter about our mother's care and the memory luncheons. Her legacy lives on and her kindness keeps on giving!

Fueling the Spirit and the Classic Convertible Volkswagon Bug!

A bright sunny day. Birds chirping throughtout the day. I was hungry, tired, and my muscles were sore. My mind was filled with creating a checklist of things to do at each one of my real estate listing I have in the area. As I traveled south bound on Capital Blvd (Route 1), I enjoyed listing to the radio thinking about my mom and realizing that if she were here this would be the perfect sunny day and she would remind me that Spring was definately upon us. As I thought about the nostalgia of the… Continue

Everything is FRESH!

Today, marks the 4th anniversary since my mother's passing. In previous years, I spent the day mourning her loss with many emotions that sometimes I wondered when the pain was going to cease. As the calendar days moved closer to another year without having my mother physically here with all of us, I realized that she would not want the day to be consumed with sadness. I decided to reflect on this amazing woman and find something that I could focus on about my mother that would bring laughter and… Continue

DRIVE THRU BIRTHDAY WISH!!!

Yesterday while going through the McDonald's drive thru at the corner of Spring Forest and Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh, I had to contend with massive redesign of the parking lot. They had two individuals outside in the cold taking the money and running to the window. The other woman was gathering the food and running to the vehicles. You could clearly see that she was chilled. When she approached my vehicle, I asked her how she was doing and she replied "Very cold, but I'm having a great day… Continue

Chad Helgemoe: (friend of a friend of a friend) has a 5 yr old son Noah. He is in the last stages of a 2 1/2 yr battle with Neuroblastoma Cancer. The family is celebrating Christmas next week and Noahs request is to get lots of Christmas cards. Lets get him some, please send cards to: Noah Biorkman 1141 Fountian View Circle, South Lyon,Mi 48178 Lets see how many cards we can get to this little guy. Please pass this on! I wish there was somewhere I could write this so that everyone could see it but I don't know how. This is a great example of an act of kindness and it will only take a few mins to get a card in the mail to make this little guys wish come true!

Hi Diana,
Thanks so much I'm having fun being a part of it. We all try to do nice things each day, but I like the fact that this is an extra reminder to go the extra mile people when you can. It helps you seek out opportunities to do something nice for someone else and that's always a good thing.

Thanks so much for reaching out! I love your posts!

Best,
Susan

Memories of Love

Tony Robin Bulley © 5th June 2007

Its not knowing that brings us pain
If we will ever see them again
To touch their face and see their smile
Abide with them for just a little while
For time has gone just like the day
Just as April then turns into May
So life passes onto twilight night
As day fades a dying light
But memories are left to see
Remembrances of you and me
Of times together fond of heart
Not gone forever just now apart
And so as winter turns to spring
Ill not forget you my everything
Nor will those times just fade away
Locked in my heart forever to stay
And in the still of night I know
You’re watching me with love that’s so
And so I wait my time and place
Once more to see your loving face
