That is such a good point Julie. If we can begin each day with a positive intention then we can feel good about that accomplishemnt and about ourselves in general. If I have a committment scheduled that is going to be a tough challenge then I lik...
Thanks for this reminder to focus on the positive as a way to be kind to myself. On the other end of the day, I try to start with an affirmation/intention for the day that is positive. Today it was "I am beginning a new day and I will stay focuse...

Tell us about an act of kindness that transformed your life? (you could have seen, or done, or had done to you)
I've learned the personal benefits of generosity. When I'm generous I simply feel better than when I choose to pass up a generosity opportunity. I've found that generosity not only feels good, but attracts more good things into my life.

Yes We Can!

Watching a video of President-elect Barack Obama's election day speech, I was moved to write the following. The loving and supportive nature of this site suggests it might be of interest here too.

Yes We Can

Yes we can. A slogan of confidence, hope, and positive action.

Yes we can. Three words that inspire, combining the positive of yes, the connection of we, and the ability to succeed of can.

In a time when political slogans are more slander than support, more fearful than hopeful, yes we can captures the positive, loving, inspiring nature of humanity.

Surely this election marks the dramatic shift millions have awaited, the shift from warring against what we don’t want to peacefully joining together in what we do want.

Can we do it? Yes we can.

Yes we can if we give more than we take, if we help more than we seek help, if we act from love not fear, from compassion not anger, from connection not separation.

There is nothing more powerful than love, more inspiring than yes, more comforting than mutual support.

Yes we can is more than a political slogan, more than a catchy phrase , and not just a people’s tag line. Make yes we can your slogan, your governing belief, your inspiration.

Remember that you are not just you, but a part of and connected to all beings. I am also we. And so are you.

Inspirational Kindness Quotes

Just today I posted an article on my Suite101 site listing 30 inspirational quotes about kindness acts. My contract with Suite101 prohibits repeating the entire article here, but a few of the quotes I found are:

# Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the and the blind can see. ~Mark Twain

# No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. ~Aesop

# For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. ~Audrey Hepburn

# Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes a… Continue

Positive Psychology on Kindness

As a member of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA), I attended a fascinating presentation as part of IPPA's quarterly Leaders Series. Sonja Lyubomirsky, a noted positive psychology researcher summarized recent research on happiness.

One of her studies involved acts of kindness. Her research results indicate that performing 3 to 9 varied acts of kindness each week increases happiness as measured by a composite measurement of well-being. She found that variety in acts of kind… Continue

Kindness Defies Categorizing

Though we've divided kindness into categories, calling them groups here at the Kindness Cure, I wonder about that. Yes, I'm a part of it myself, heading the self-kindness group. But kindness really defies being captured from only one perspective. I've been pretty busy recently with Christmas preparations, (kindness to family, loved ones, others), Christmas gift selections (kindness to family, loved ones, others), baby-sitting my grandson (kindness to family, loved ones, self), spending time with… Continue

Thank you for the warm welcom Jerry and also for the kind words. I wonder if it is perhaps a societal thing that we tend to view death in such a negative way. I can really be a time of healing and a coming together of friends and family. Sometimes all a dying person wants is a receptive ear, a wamring hug and someone to hold their hand.

That's a great reminder...and I sometimes do the same thing. It's wonderful to relive our great memories by retelling our little events that were precious to us. You're a sweetheart for "lending an ear".
