Thanks for this reminder to focus on the positive as a way to be kind to myself. On the other end of the day, I try to start with an affirmation/intention for the day that is positive. Today it was "I am beginning a new day and I will stay focused…

It's easier said than done but I try to shift my perspective to veiw the situation through their eyes, their pereception. As you have so well described, sometimes folks mean well but their actions become annyoying and even offensive to us till we re…

Great question, Julie! I had a different problem when my lupus was more of a problem. I looked fine and fit, but couldn't lift a cup of coffee or open a door. I hated asking for help because people looked at me like I was being lazy (or I perceived…

I have MS. When I tell people, they often respond with what I perceive as pity. They tilt their heads, widen their eyes, sometimes even well up a little, squeeze my arm, and say "Ohhhh. I'm so sorry." I hate people feeling sorry for me so I am usua…

I keep hearing songs that remind me of my dad. "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" by Jim Croce was the first. I smiled when I heard it, remembering Dad in our house in California, dancing around the living room with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the ot…

You were certainly witness to an historic occasion Julie. I have been active in politics on a number of levels and have opened myself to studying movements that run the full length of the political spectrum. It's my personal opinion that no one par…

Profile Information

Tell us a little about yourself! Where you're from, what you do, what you care about.
I'm from all over but currently live just south of Boston. I am a writer. I care about my two children, my boyfriend, my friends, the planet, liberal causes and politics, and helping find a cure for MS.
How did you hear about the Kindness Cure?
Hmmmm. I no longer remember. MS brain fart, age, or too much web surfing, I wonder. :-)
Tell us about an act of kindness that transformed your life? (you could have seen, or done, or had done to you)
When I participated in the Boston to New York AIDS Ride, it was not a given that I would finish the demanding course each day. On Day 3, there was a cold, driving rain, and I was about to give up. I remember crying and feeling sorry for myself and wishing for a cup of coffee. All of a sudden, I saw a woman in the road, blocking traffic to allow riders to cross the road into a Dunkin Donuts. She was shouting "Free Coffee." When I thanked the manager, he told me that the woman had come into the store and given him $500 to buy coffee for all the riders and that she told him to let her know when he ran out of money. Her generosity allowed me to keep going when I was ready to give up. I try to focus on the positive every day in my writing and my life. I blog at http://lazyjulie.blogspot.com

In those days, he had a curly Afro and a mustache kind of like Jim Croce.

I keep passing his name in my email and cell phone address/phone books and remembering that he is gone. I miss him but I

Diane--I was just talking to my boyfriend about how technology opens up my world! I love travel and meeting new people in person but the inability to do that as much as I would like (children, finances, health, work) doesn't mean I don't have the opportunity to explore!

thanks for your comment/criticism of my profile. Admittedly my 'placeholder,' act of kindness needs to be updated and more personal.
